A morphometric approach to track opium poppy domestication

چکیده

Abstract Opium poppy ( Papaver somniferum L. subsp . ) was likely domesticated in the Western Mediterranean, where its putative wild ancestor is indigenous, and then spread to central northern Europe. While opium seeds are regularly identified archaeobotanical studies, absence of morphological criteria distinguish domestic forms prevents documentation their respective historical geographical occurrences process domestication as a whole. To fill this gap better understand status crop Neolithic, we combined seed outline analyses, namely elliptic Fourier transforms, with other morphometric descriptors describe identify setigerum, taxa. The combination all measured parameters gives most precise predictions for identification seven We finally provide case study on Neolithic assemblage from pile-dwelling site Switzerland (Zurich-Parkhaus Opéra, ca. 3170 BC). Our results indicate presence mixed populations belonging P. group, suggesting that plant already at end 4th millennium BC. Altogether, these pave way geography history into

AFLP Analysis of Opium Poppy

There are several different DNA analysis procedures that have been used to identify and characterize plant Amplified restriction fragment length polymorphic (AFLP) DNA cultivars to determine genetic diversity. Each procedure analysis was performed on leaf samples of 40 accessions of opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) and two other control genera (Pahas it own requirements, sensitivity, and rel...

Secrets of the opium poppy revealed.

Studies concerning drugs of abuse have made major contributions in defining the circuitry, as well as cellular and molecular substrates that underlie certain behaviors. Opiate drugs for example, have revealed important insights concerning pain perception and reward. Up to the late 1960s, opiate drugs were suspected to work by mysteriously perturbing lipid membrane structure. We now know the fol...

Tyrosine aminotransferase contributes to benzylisoquinoline alkaloid biosynthesis in opium poppy.

Tyrosine aminotransferase (TyrAT) catalyzes the transamination of L-Tyr and α-ketoglutarate, yielding 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid and L-glutamate. The decarboxylation product of 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid, 4-hydroxyphenylacetaldehyde, is a precursor to a large and diverse group of natural products known collectively as benzylisoquinoline alkaloids (BIAs). We have isolated and characterized a T...
